Silver Action With Spring Action

I had the chance to take a friend out fishing that has come from sunny Barbados! Weather was great and the water flat! We left the dock and went up the coast to Muir Creek! With the lines on the water we were fishing. The rod fishing close to the bottom started to dip! Lifting the rod out of the rod holder I started to reel in the slack line and set the hook "FISH ON"
I handed the rod over the David C. and let the fun begin. Playing the fish like a pro, he led the silver Spring close to the boat so that I could get it in to the net!
Nice fish and great day on the water for my friend from Barbados.

Nets In The Water

Out fishing on Sunday July 15 and what a day! All around fisherman netting fish! Started out at Donaldson Island and released our first fish with in the first 10min. of having the rods in the water. Up to the boat and into the net! A small Spring (Chinook) so back in the water it went. Just a start to a great day fishing on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Rebait the the lines and back into the water ready for the next fish. Watching the rod tips dip down to the water I grab the rod, reel in the slack and set the hook "Fish on". With the fish pulling and tugging at the line the fish is drawn into the net. A nice Pink Salmon that is then slid into the fish box. With the Pinks running in larger numbers out past the 2nd tide lines, out we went to find them.

Setting the lines from 55 feet to 85 feet, it did not take long for the first fish to take the bait. Running two rods off each down rigger. The top line was released to get out of the way for the lower set rod that a fish was on. Getting ready to net the fish, the rod that was left to rise on its own was suddenly pulling with a fish that followed it to the surface. A double header! Quickly netting the first fish we turned our attention to the second fish. In the net it goes and into the fish box.

The next excitement came to us a little different. The top rod tip started to dip. I started reeling in the slack and set the hook. passing off the rod I could see the line running to the surface! Looking back behind the boat we could see the fish just under the surface. I was thinking that this Pink Salmon was about to leap out of the water. The Salmon started to jump and then swim towards the boat. With the net ready the Salmon was in the net! The Pink Salmon turned out to be a Wild Coho (Silver). With a few pics of the nice fish, back to the Pacific it went. With a few hand shakes we finished the day off with a boat ride along the West Coast back to home port!
